After a collision, the priority is getting your car off the carriageway and onto a flatbed before TfL or the Met Police order it removed at recovery-pound rates. Our drivers train specifically on accident scenes - winching a vehicle that won't roll, working around deployed airbags, securing fluids, and clearing debris - which is the difference between a clean roadside pickup and a £350 statutory removal fee plus daily storage charges.

We carry hydraulic winches rated to 3,500 kg and a full set of dollies, skates and axle straps. That means we can load a car with seized wheels, snapped half-shafts, bent axles or jammed brakes - situations that defeat a basic suspended-tow operator and force a full second call-out at your expense. The flatbed itself is enclosed-friendly for prestige write-offs and avoids any further panel-on-panel contact during transit.

Where most operators force you to remember to ask for paperwork days later, we issue an itemised invoice with VAT, the recovery date and time, the pickup and drop-off addresses, and a set of scene photos - all emailed within hours. Your insurer's claim handler will ask for exactly those documents; having them already in your inbox before you call them speeds your settlement by days. We've handled accident recoveries for every major UK insurer (AXA, Aviva, Direct Line, LV, Admiral, Hastings, Churchill) and know the exact format their adjusters want.

The Accident Recovery promise

Quoted before we move. Fixed when we arrive. Done before you've had a coffee.

"When you call us about accident recovery, the price you hear on the phone is the price you'll pay. No 'depending on traffic'. No clipboard charge on arrival. No surprise fee for the bit we forgot to mention. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every single call-out."

  • Fixed price quoted before dispatch, written into the job ticket.
  • One driver, one vehicle, one price - never a relay job.
  • Insurance certificate available to view before pickup.
  • Card, contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay or invoice on the spot.

Step by step

How accident recovery works.

Call dispatch from the scene

Tap to call our 24/7 line. Tell us your location, the registration, and what happened - we'll quote the fixed price up front and dispatch immediately. We can also liaise directly with your insurer if their claim line has approved recovery.

Flatbed and winch on scene

30-45 minutes from your call across Central London. Driver assesses the vehicle for safe loading, secures fluids, photographs the scene from four angles, then winches and ratchet-straps the car to the flatbed.

Delivered + paperwork issued

We deliver to your chosen body shop, dealer, home address, or insurer's nominated repairer. Itemised invoice with VAT and scene photos emailed the same day for your claim file.

Who calls us

Three customer types we help every week.

No. 01

The Junction Crash

Side-impact at a Central London junction - your car is drivable but you've got airbags out and bodywork issues. We get it onto a flatbed before traffic builds and hand you the paperwork your insurer needs by the time you've finished swapping details.

No. 02

The Multi-Storey Bump

Hit a pillar, scraped a parked car, or got hit at a tight angle in an NCP. Most insurers require recovery to a body shop rather than driving home. We handle the in-and-out from any London car park.

No. 03

The M25 Slip-Road

Lost the back end on a wet slip road, hit the Armco, and you're stranded on the hard shoulder. We're typically within 30 minutes of M25 junctions 25-30 with the right equipment to clear quickly and safely.

The cheapest quote on a London recovery is rarely the cheapest job. By the time you've added the surcharge, the ULEZ pass-through and the extra hour in traffic, a fixed price from a local team almost always wins.

- Lead controller, Central London dispatch
Reserved for the discerning London driver

The right accident recovery - for the right kind of customer.

You haven't read this far because you're comparing prices. You've read this far because you've already decided that on a vehicle like yours, this is the only sensible call - and the only operator you would trust to make it.

Our customers are the people who do not negotiate the recovery of a £200,000 car the way they do not negotiate the surgeon, the wine, the tailor or the school. They recognise quality on first contact, and they pay for it without performance. The question for them is never "what is your cheapest rate". It is "can you be here, properly equipped, properly insured, in the time I have available" - and they know exactly why they are asking.

Booking us puts you in a clientele of London's prestige owners, City principals, Mayfair dealers, motorsport teams, family offices and private clients whose names we will never repeat. They do not advertise that they use us. They use us because the standard they set for themselves is invisible to anyone who has not already met it.

  • A fixed price, agreed before any driver moves. We do not haggle - and you do not ask.
  • Direct employees, answering to a London control room. Not a call queue in another country.
  • Insurance certificates emailed in advance, the way you would expect them to be.
  • Discretion by default. Unmarked transporters where the address requires it.
  • Manufacturer-grade tooling, dealer-equivalent diagnostics, OEM-spec parts. No compromise behind the scenes.
  • Same-day paperwork your insurer's claims handler will recognise as professional grade.

Book the accident recovery that matches the standard you already set for everything else you choose.

Vehicle eligibility

Which vehicles this service covers.

We recover all post-collision passenger vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, including cars, vans, and SUVs. Crashed or non-running prestige vehicles (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bentley, McLaren) are loaded onto our enclosed-trailer service for additional protection - see Premium Car Transportation. We do not recover HGVs, motorcycles, or vehicles with active fluid leaks of >10L without specialist hazmat dispatch - call us first to confirm capability.

Coverage

Across all 32 boroughs.

We work every London postcode from EC1 to SE28. Whether you're in the City, Canary Wharf, Camden, or further out in Greenwich or Walthamstow, the call goes to our Central London control room and the closest available driver heads to you straight away.

From the technicians

Expert tips on accident recovery.

Things our lead technicians have learned across more than 10,000 London call-outs.

01

Photograph everything before recovery arrives

Even if you're shaken, take at least four photos of your car (front, back, both sides) and one of the road context. Insurers love claimant photos because they show the scene before any movement. We add our own set on arrival but yours are gold-standard for a quick settlement.

02

Don't sign your car over to the first tow truck that stops

Independent operators sometimes circle accident scenes hoping for a panicked driver. Once your car is on their truck, recovering it from their pound costs £200-£500 plus daily storage. Always call your insurer or a known operator first.

03

Ask whether your insurer has a 'recovery panel'

Some policies route accident recovery through an approved panel - using a non-panel operator may leave you self-funding. We work with most panels, but check before you book if you're unsure.

04

Keep the keys with the car

Body shops cannot inspect or move your car without keys. If your car is being recovered to an insurer's repair centre, the keys stay with the car - we'll receipt them on the recovery paperwork so there's no dispute later.

FAQ

Accident Recovery questions, answered.

How much does accident recovery cost in London?

Two tiers. Standard accident recovery starts from £250 per recovery within Central London - includes winching, loading, transport up to 12 miles, four-angle scene photographs, and the itemised insurance invoice. Premium-car tier - for Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Range Rover, AMG, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, McLaren and similar prestige vehicles - is from £440 with chassis-pickup-only strapping, twelve-angle pre-load condition photographs, discreet scheduling and bespoke high-value insurance. Longer-distance transport or unusual access requirements (multi-storey, restricted height) are quoted in advance on either tier with no hidden surcharges.

Will my insurance cover the recovery cost?

Comprehensive policies almost always cover recovery after an at-fault or non-fault accident, often as a direct settlement to us under your claim. Third-party-only policies typically don't include recovery in the policy itself, but you can claim recovery costs back from the at-fault driver's insurer if liability lies with them. We issue the paperwork your insurer needs to settle either way.

Can you recover a car that won't roll?

Yes - that's exactly what flatbed recovery with a winch is for. Bent axles, snapped driveshafts, locked steering, jammed brakes, deployed airbags, fluid leaks: we have the equipment and training to load every one of those scenarios. Suspended-tow trucks (where the car is dragged on its rear wheels) cannot - which is why we always send a flatbed to a confirmed accident scene.

What if my car has fluid leaks at the scene?

Small fluid leaks (under ~10 litres) are handled with our standard absorbent kit and bunded recovery. Larger leaks - fuel, hydraulic oil, coolant in significant volumes - require specialist spill-response and we'll dispatch our hazmat-equipped vehicle and notify the relevant authority. Either way, we don't refuse the job because of leaks.

How fast can you actually arrive at an accident scene?

Our average response time for accident recoveries within Central London is 30-45 minutes. Edge zones (Greenwich, Walthamstow, Brent) and outer M25 junctions may take 45-70 minutes depending on traffic. We dispatch the closest available flatbed the moment you call.

Will you take the car to my insurer's approved body shop?

Yes. Tell us the body shop name and postcode when you book and we'll deliver direct. If your insurer hasn't yet nominated a repairer, we can deliver to your home address or hold the vehicle at our secure yard for £25/day until your claim is approved.

Do you provide photographs for my insurance claim?

Always. Every accident recovery includes a four-angle photo set of the damaged vehicle taken on scene, plus a photo of the road location and any visible third-party debris. These are emailed to you within hours of pickup, alongside the itemised invoice. Insurers' adjusters routinely cite the photos as the reason a claim was settled quickly.

Can you recover from the M25 hard shoulder?

Yes - we cover M25 junctions 25 through 30 daily and have hard-shoulder safe recovery capability with appropriate signage and chevron-marked vehicles. For motorway recoveries we coordinate with National Highways' traffic officers as required.

Why us

Why London drivers choose Car Recovery in London.

National firms run the same rate card from John o' Groats to Land's End. That works for the average call-out, but London isn't an average city. Bus gates, low-emission zones, height restrictions, road closures for events every other weekend, traffic that shifts by the half-hour - all of it adds up. A generic operator can't quote honestly without padding the price. We built this whole operation around London, on purpose, and you can see it in the small things that matter when you're stranded.

  • Fixed pricing. Quoted before dispatch and written into the job ticket. No "depending on traffic", no clipboard surcharge.
  • 35-minute average response. Real number, measured every month from call to wheels-on-truck.
  • £5m public liability cover. Goods-in-transit included. Certificates available to view before pickup.
  • Direct employees. Not subcontractors paid per job, so there's no rush-and-go incentive to cut corners.
  • 32 boroughs, every day. 28 live postcodes with bus-gate and ULEZ data baked into the routing.
  • One number, 24/7. Calls land in our Central London control room. No offshore call centre, no menu tree.
Pricing in context

What you actually pay for accident recovery.

Accident Recovery - from
£250
per recovery
That covers the most common version of this job inside our standard service area. Specialist requirements (out-of-hours dispatch, longer distance, prestige or extra-heavy vehicle, awkward access) can add a fixed top-up - and we'll always quote it before a driver leaves the depot.

Compare it to AA or RAC's rolling-membership model. You pay £180-£260 a year for cover that may or may not include the situation you're actually in. For most drivers without a fleet, paying as you go from £250 only when you need it works out cheaper over time. The maths is simple: if you break down once every two years, you've spent £400+ on membership fees for a job that would have cost you a single £250 call-out.

See full transparent pricing on the pricing page, where every service line is laid out with included distances, off-peak vs out-of-hours rates, and example totals for common scenarios. Or if you want to see how our rates compare to membership cover, our blog post "How much does car recovery cost in London (2025)" works through real examples.
