A modern car battery is a far more sophisticated piece of kit than the lead-acid block your dad fitted in the 90s. Most cars built after 2011 use AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) or EFB (Enhanced Flooded) batteries to support stop-start systems, regenerative braking, and dozens of always-on electronic modules. Replacing one with the wrong type, or fitting it without coding it to the car's battery management system, can cause issues ranging from a permanently lit warning light to a refusal to start.

Our mobile battery service exists for two reasons. First, dealer prices for AGM batteries are routinely £400-£500 fitted (some are quoted £600 for a Mercedes A-Class) - and an independent home fit at the right battery, properly coded, comes in around £250-£300. Second, getting the car to the dealer when it won't start is itself a recovery job. We bring the battery to you.

Every fit includes coding the new battery to the car's BMS (Battery Management System) where the vehicle requires it, which is most modern Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, VWs, Volvos, Land Rovers and many newer Fords and Vauxhalls. We also run a full charging-system check - voltage at idle, voltage at 2,000 rpm, voltage drop under load - before we leave, so we know we've fixed the cause and not just the symptom.

The Battery Replacement promise

Quoted before we move. Fixed when we arrive. Done before you've had a coffee.

"When you call us about battery replacement, the price you hear on the phone is the price you'll pay. No 'depending on traffic'. No clipboard charge on arrival. No surprise fee for the bit we forgot to mention. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every single call-out."

  • Fixed price quoted before dispatch, written into the job ticket.
  • One driver, one vehicle, one price - never a relay job.
  • Insurance certificate available to view before pickup.
  • Card, contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay or invoice on the spot.
The Dispatch Team
Car Recovery in London
Step by step

How battery replacement works.

Confirm vehicle and battery type

Tell us your reg number and we'll identify the exact battery spec your car requires (CCA, capacity, AGM/EFB/Standard, terminal type).

Mobile technician arrives

We bring the correct battery to your home, your office, or your roadside location - at the time slot you booked. Most fits take 25-40 minutes including coding.

Coded, tested and warranted

New battery coded to the car's BMS where required, charging system tested, warranty card emailed. 12 months parts cover.

Who calls us

Three customer types we help every week.

No. 01

The Stop-Start Owner

If your stop-start function has stopped engaging, it's almost always the battery. AGM/EFB-spec replacement is the only fix - and dealer prices for these are routinely double our rate.

No. 02

The Cold-Snap Casualty

Battery died after a cold November/December morning. Most batteries that die in winter are over four years old and were already weak - replacement is the only durable solution.

No. 03

The High-Mileage Tradesperson

Vans and high-mileage cars wear batteries faster due to constant short trips, frequent starts and heavy electrical loads (sat-nav, dash cam, charging tools). 4-year replacement cycles are normal.

The cheapest quote on a London recovery is rarely the cheapest job. By the time you've added the surcharge, the ULEZ pass-through and the extra hour in traffic, a fixed price from a local team almost always wins.

Reserved for the discerning London driver

The right battery replacement - for the right kind of customer.

You haven't read this far because you're comparing prices. You've read this far because you've already decided that on a vehicle like yours, this is the only sensible call - and the only operator you would trust to make it.

Our customers are the people who do not negotiate the recovery of a £200,000 car the way they do not negotiate the surgeon, the wine, the tailor or the school. They recognise quality on first contact, and they pay for it without performance. The question for them is never "what is your cheapest rate". It is "can you be here, properly equipped, properly insured, in the time I have available" - and they know exactly why they are asking.

Booking us puts you in a clientele of London's prestige owners, City principals, Mayfair dealers, motorsport teams, family offices and private clients whose names we will never repeat. They do not advertise that they use us. They use us because the standard they set for themselves is invisible to anyone who has not already met it.

  • A fixed price, agreed before any driver moves. We do not haggle - and you do not ask.
  • Direct employees, answering to a London control room. Not a call queue in another country.
  • Insurance certificates emailed in advance, the way you would expect them to be.
  • Discretion by default. Unmarked transporters where the address requires it.
  • Manufacturer-grade tooling, dealer-equivalent diagnostics, OEM-spec parts. No compromise behind the scenes.
  • Same-day paperwork your insurer's claims handler will recognise as professional grade.

Book the battery replacement that matches the standard you already set for everything else you choose.

From the technicians

Expert tips on battery replacement.

Things our lead technicians have learned across more than 10,000 London call-outs.

01

Always replace AGM with AGM, EFB with EFB

Fitting a standard battery to a stop-start car will cause warning lights, premature failure of the new battery, and possibly damage to the alternator. The ÂŁ40 saved on the wrong battery costs ÂŁ500 in damage.

02

Get the new battery coded

Modern cars track each battery by serial number through the BMS. A new battery without coding will be charged like the old one was - typically resulting in 60% of expected life.

03

Check the alternator at the same time

If your battery has died because the alternator wasn't charging it properly, replacing the battery alone will get you another flat battery in two months. We always test the alternator on every fit.

04

Battery age matters more than charge level

Even a 'fully charged' 5-year-old battery often has lost 40% of its cold-cranking ability. If yours is over 4 years old and you're getting any sluggish-crank symptoms, plan a replacement before winter.

FAQ

Battery Replacement questions, answered.

How much does a car battery cost fitted in London?

Two tiers. Standard mobile battery service starts from £250 supplied and fitted, including coding (where required) and a charging-system check - covers most family hatchbacks, saloons and SUVs. Premium-car tier - for Bentley, Range Rover, AMG, Tesla 12V auxiliary, twin-battery systems and anything requiring dealer-grade BMS coding (BMW ISTA-equivalent, Mercedes XENTRY-equivalent, etc.) - is from £440. Both tiers include the same 12-month warranty.

Do you stock the right battery for my car?

We stock AGM, EFB and standard batteries for every common make and model. Tell us your registration number when booking and we'll identify the exact spec - capacity (Ah), cold-cranking amps (CCA), terminal layout - and bring the correct one.

What is AGM vs EFB vs standard?

Standard (lead-acid flooded) batteries are for older cars without stop-start. EFB (Enhanced Flooded) is a beefed-up version for entry-level stop-start systems. AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) is required for advanced stop-start with regenerative braking and is the most expensive - but it has a far longer service life and far better deep-cycle resistance.

Will you code the new battery to my car?

Yes. Modern Audis, BMWs, Mercedes, VWs, Volvos and many others require the new battery to be registered with the car's Battery Management System via OBD. We carry the diagnostic tools to do this on every fit, and it's included in the price.

How long does a battery fitting take?

Most fits are completed in 25-40 minutes, including diagnostic, removal, fitting, coding and a charging-system check. Stop-start cars take slightly longer because of the coding step.

What's the warranty on a fitted battery?

12 months parts warranty as standard. If the battery itself fails within 12 months - confirmed by a load test - we replace it free of charge. The warranty does not cover damage caused by an underlying car fault (e.g. a faulty alternator).

Can you fit at my workplace or just at home?

We fit anywhere we can safely access the car - home, office car park, on-street, multi-storey, depot. Most of our fits happen at customer workplaces during the working day.

What about EV 12V auxiliary batteries?

Yes - Teslas, Leafs, Priuses and other EVs/hybrids all have a small 12V auxiliary battery that powers the lights, infotainment and unlock systems. When this dies, the car won't even open. We replace 12V auxiliary batteries on EVs and hybrids the same way as petrol/diesel cars.

Why us

Why London drivers choose Car Recovery in London.

National firms run the same rate card from John o' Groats to Land's End. That works for the average call-out, but London isn't an average city. Bus gates, low-emission zones, height restrictions, road closures for events every other weekend, traffic that shifts by the half-hour - all of it adds up. A generic operator can't quote honestly without padding the price. We built this whole operation around London, on purpose, and you can see it in the small things that matter when you're stranded.

  • Fixed pricing. Quoted before dispatch and written into the job ticket. No "depending on traffic", no clipboard surcharge.
  • 35-minute average response. Real number, measured every month from call to wheels-on-truck.
  • £5m public liability cover. Goods-in-transit included. Certificates available to view before pickup.
  • Direct employees. Not subcontractors paid per job, so there's no rush-and-go incentive to cut corners.
  • 32 boroughs, every day. 28 live postcodes with bus-gate and ULEZ data baked into the routing.
  • One number, 24/7. Calls land in our Central London control room. No offshore call centre, no menu tree.
Pricing in context

What you actually pay for battery replacement.

Battery Replacement - from
£250
supplied & fitted
That covers the most common version of this job inside our standard service area. Specialist requirements (out-of-hours dispatch, longer distance, prestige or extra-heavy vehicle, awkward access) can add a fixed top-up - and we'll always quote it before a driver leaves the depot.

Compare it to AA or RAC's rolling-membership model. You pay £180-£260 a year for cover that may or may not include the situation you're actually in. For most drivers without a fleet, paying as you go from £250 only when you need it works out cheaper over time. The maths is simple: if you break down once every two years, you've spent £400+ on membership fees for a job that would have cost you a single £250 call-out.

See full transparent pricing on the pricing page, where every service line is laid out with included distances, off-peak vs out-of-hours rates, and example totals for common scenarios. Or if you want to see how our rates compare to membership cover, our blog post "How much does car recovery cost in London (2025)" works through real examples.
